Gotham City Sirens: Waffle Thiefs

I have absolutely no idea what this is about, but I know that it was a promo for the Birds of Prey Full Series on DVD.. well, I think it is, at least. I'm just seeing this now, but I am left confused and bewildered.

Part Batman: The Animated Series, Part Gotham City Sirens, Part Birds of Prey.. completely crazy.

Robin Has a Filthy Mouth

Dick Grayson gets frightened and frustrated and cannot hold back in this clip from the popular Cartoon parody series Not For Air.

Blast From the Past: The New Adventures of Batman

The Dark Knight has had a bizarre and diverse past, and the opening for the 1977 The New Adventures of Batman proves to be no exception. Gaze upon the likeness of Batman, Robin, Batgirl, and yes.. Bat-Mite! The wonders don't stop with Bat-Mite, however, listen close and hear the terrible drone that would put any of us in Arkham if we were exposed to it too long.

Anyway, this video is a blast, so enjoy "Batfans"!

Cover of the Week

This week saw variants, specials, and beautiful cover art on all of the Gotham Books, but what was the best? Well, after placing all data into a specific, complex algorithm, we have determined, that while all of the covers were good, one stood out, head and shoulders above the rest!

This Walt Simonson cover for Detective Comics #866 was inspired by Jerry Robinson's classic cover from Detective Comics #69 and brought it into the modern era in celebration of DC Comics' 75th Anniversary.

So that's our cover of the week, but what was your favorite cover from Gotham City?

Superman/Batman II

The next movie in the ever popular line of DC Animated Movies has been officially announced as Superman/Batman: Apocalypse. The movie is based on the second story arc of Jeph Loeb's run on Superman/Batman entitled, "The Supergirl from Krypton." The movie will be released on DVD and blu-ray on September 28th.

Look at this cover art!!

Cool, right?

From The Soundtracks: "Foolish Games"-Jewel

Batman movies have had an interesting relationship with popular music of the years. Before Chris Nolan's entrance into Gotham City, Batman soundtracks have had some of the most bizarre musical selections for any films, let alone Batman films. Considering what we know about The Caped Crusader, most of the musical selections just seem completely out of place.

Well, I'd like to take this moment to shed some light on some of the more random occurrences in the musical department in a segment I like to call "From The Soundtracks". This week's entrance comes from Alaskan pop/country/folk singer Jewel with her less relevant "Foolish Games" from the Batman & Robin soundtrack.

Top 4 Fathers of Gotham City

Happy Father's Day Gothamites!

Today, I'd like to take the time to give a little list of the fathers and father figures of Gotham City. From good to bad, these dads have a profound impact in the story telling of Gotham City.

1. Thomas Wayne- Thomas Wayne may have been gunned down while his son, Bruce, was still a little boy, but his compassion and drive to do what was right stuck with Bruce and gave him all the inspiration he needed to become the man he is today. Plus, if you know your history, he was also arguably the inspiration that Bruce needed to become The Batman.

2. Commissioner James Gordon- Jim Gordon loves his children, and he will do anything in his power to protect them. He has done everything in his power to keep his daughter, Barbara, safe, but also knew when to let go so she could make her own decisions. He is not a perfect person and has made real mistakes, but has worked his way from lieutenant of the Gotham Police force to the very top, and in this he has inspired his daughter to be a true hero, and fight for what is good and right in the world, even in the face of tragedy. Jim Gordon single handedly raised one of the greatest heroes of our time in who we now call Oracle.

3. Alfred Pennyworth- Alfred acted as a surrogate father to Bruce Wayne, raising him in the way that Thomas and Martha would see fit. However, when Bruce becomes Batman, Alfred has an interesting approach in guiding him in the right direction. Instead of being concerned for a normal life for Mr. Wayne, Alfred completely encourages Bruce to become The Dark Knight of Gotham City.

4. Bruce Wayne- surrogate father for Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake (Wayne), and Cassandra Caine. Biological father to Damian Wayne. Bruce Wayne is a great man. He is determined and focused and compassionate to the needs of his city and helps out as much as his wallet can handle, and his wallet can handle a lot. He also takes in children who have lost their parents, have very little direction in life, and tries to help them out as much as he can. Batman, on the other hand, is a dark, brooding vigilante, who stays focused on the cleaning the dark streets of the corrupt city of Gotham, which doesn't necessarily play that well as a father figure. Batman has, however, shown his desire and drive to be a passionate and giving father who will do anything to protect his child, but we see how that turned out. Although most of his kids have turned out to be heroes in their own right, we also you that you can't win them all..

Bat In The Sun: "City of Scars"

Like Batman? Like the Joker? Want to see a live action Harley Quinn? Like Fan films? Well, the guys over at Bat In The Sun have done it again with their short "City of Scars".

It's a really cool live action film that runs approximately 30 minutes, and it is the only thing that I have seen that successfully combines the feel and attitude of Chris Nolan's Batman Begins and The Dark Knight with Batman: The Animated Series. It has some drawbacks, mainly from the lack of budget, but overall these guys really have what it takes to take this to the next level.

I hope Hollywood is paying attention, which they just might be with all the coverage this film has gotten..

So congrats on a job well done, Bat In The Sun, hopefully we'll see you on the podcast!
