Panel of the Week: August 18, 2010

Panel of The Week features the single panel that stands out head and shoulders above all other panels. The panel of the week is based on great art, strong determination, intense action, bravery, and above all else, exemplify the qualities of a super hero. This week's comics didn't feature a lot of heroics, but there were some panels that exemplified the character at hand, and that's arguably the most important aspect of all. So without further ado, the panel of the week is...

Justice Society of America #42:
Mark Bagley/Norm Rapmund (Art), James Robinson (Writer)

Faced with certain doom at the hands of a possessed Alan Scott, Batman (Dick Grayson) lets cooler heads prevail and takes control of the situation by standing firm as leader, and commanding the troops into battle.

Batman Beyond: Complete Series Preorder

Hey Gotham, just wanted to drop in and give you a tidbit of information, Amazon.com has the preorder status up for the upcoming release of the complete Batman Beyond Animated Series. It's currently listed at $91.49 for the 8 disc set collecting all of the previously released seasons on DVD, but as a little side note, a couple of weeks ago, I saw it for around $70, but Amazon will always give you the lowest listed price between your order date and the release date, so it'll be a good deal no matter what.
Street date for this series is November 23, 2010, so this gives you plenty of time to gather the money, or put it on your wish list, just don't miss out because these complete series sets don't stick around forever, and when they go out of print the price sky rockets. So get it while you can!

So, go ahead and pre-order through us here, if you'd like, because we'd appreciate that! Plus, you know this series is totally schway.

Cover of the Week: July 4th, 2010

This week in Gotham, we saw team ups, a glimpse into the future, Sirens, books for kids, hardcovers, and one shots, and after putting all of our data in the electronic cover analyzer (hardcovers do not meet the criteria) we have come to a solution of the best cover that Gotham City has ever seen this week. And although each cover was great, only one could stand head and shoulders above the rest. The Cover of the Week is none other than...

This variant cover for the first issue of the most recent series about the Dark Knight of the future is from superstar artist J. H. Williams III and features an elderly Bruce Wayne in the background while Terry McGinnis gets surrounded by techno waves of digital bliss.

That's our cover of the week, but what was your favorite?

Twitbits: News from Twitter

Hey there Gotham,

Are you on Twitter? Do you follow the Bat-family of creators? If the answer to either of those questions is "no", I suggest you change that ASAP!

Cameron Stewart, (@cameronmstewart) artist on Batman & Robin #6-9 and Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #3 and Dave Baron (@MyZombies), colorist on Detective Comics #861-863 both dropped a little bit of info concerning some future books they are working on.

Baron mentioned that he is the colorist on the upcoming Batman Beyond mini-series, and he also linked and mention the art of Ryan Benjamin, the artist on Batman Beyond.

Also, Stewart has been updating his blog consistently with art from his upcoming issue of The Return of Bruce Wayne, in which we see Cowboy Bruce!

This June - Batman Beyond Returns!

Paul Levitz is writing the upcoming Batman Beyond-centric Superman/Batman annual in June — but that’s just the beginning for Terry McGinnis, the Batman of the future who is guided by an elderly Bruce Wayne in his efforts to protect Neo Gotham.

Starting in June, Batman Beyond — a six-issue mini-series from writer Adam Beechen (The Batman) and artist Ryan Benjamin — will pit the future Dark Knight against his own past, as a dangerous force has begun to target Bruce Wayne’s old foes. Can Wayne’s past put Terry’s future in danger?

Adam Beechen had these thoughts on the matter:

“The dark future of the legendary animated series comes to the DCU in a six-issue miniseries, as Terry McGinniss, Bruce Wayne’s young successor as Batman, faces his deadliest foe yet — a mystery murderer from the Dark Knight’s past! Old faces return, new allies and enemies step into the light, and the partnership between Terry and Bruce — not to mention Terry and Bruce themselves — might not survive!”

Sounds awesome, in the meantime enjoy the cover to the first issue, from superstar artist Dustin Nguyen above.

Beyond Awesome

If you're above the age of 18, you may remember a little show entitled, "Batman Beyond." This animated television series, created and produced by the master, Bruce Timm, depicted an aging Bruce Wayne as he takes on a protege in the form of high school student, Terry McGinnis. The show ran from 1999-2001 on Kids WB before it was canceled unceremoniously. It was almost revived several years later with a college-aged Terry and the daugher of Nightwing and Starfire, but the show never left the runway. Even though Batman Beyond: Part II never made it to syndication, the cast was featured in its own feature length movie ("Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker") and on two Justice League episodes. The latter episode, entitled, "Epilogue," (which actually aired as part of Justice League Unlimited) served as a proper series finale for the show as it never had one before.

But why am I sharing all this lovely information with you? Well, as it turns, out, DC Entertainment (as they're now known as) has decided to give Batman Beyond its own 6-issue mini series starting in June!!! BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!!! Not only are we receiving a Batman Beyond mini, but we're also going to be looking at Superman Beyond!!

As you may or may not know, Superman was featured on two episodes of Batman Beyond. I believe Superman Beyond to be about this spin on the character but DC has given us no further details at this point.

Needless to say for all those Batman Beyond fans out there, this is very, very schway.
