Gotham Central #118

Gotham Central #118 AKA "DOOMSDAY"

Here's the episode where we whine for 40 minutes about Post-Flashpoint DCU! YAY! Also, we talk Gotham City Sirens and Detective Comics, and mention the books for June 1, 2011, but who cares about that!?

This is a sort of special episode, so there are no listener questions or segments where we talk about what we read or bought. That's right! 100% moaning! WOOO!

Come hate with us!

"Game On!!!"

Hello Gothamites,

On this week's episode, Tim and Hunter talk at length about all of this week's books, DC's 75th Anniversary CD, deals this week, and Hunter shares a little too much when it comes to a discussion on Batman, Inc. #1. All this and answers to your questions!

Will Hunter be able to not favor Grant Morrison's writing?

Will Tim mispronounce title's name?

Will either of our heroes be able to make it through the pull list alive?

Stay tuned to find out!

NYCC: DC Universe Panel

..and we're back! After an extended hiatus, the crew here at Gotham Central are getting up to date on all of the Batman books, returning from New York Comic Con, and bringing along a few treats with them.

There wasn't a lot of Batman news given at the con, but at the DC Universe panel, there were a few nice tidbits given on some of the upcoming storylines in the Batman books, and embedded after the jump are a few videos from the panel. We've got some great pics from the convention, but those are still to follow, but check out the videos for details about the future of Batman in DC Comics.

November Batman News

DC's The Source has posted new information to inform us on the changes coming to Batman in November. Here's what The Source has to say:

"Bruce Wayne be returning to a new set of Batman duds, but his first sidekick, Dick Grayson, will continue to fight crime on the streets of Gotham as Batman, and under the banner of 'Batman Inc.'"

As for the rest of the titles, Batman and Robin will continue the adventures of Dick and Damien, While Batman Inc., and Batman: Dark Knight will follow Bruce Wayne. Here's what editor Mike Marts had to say on the subject:

“Just as readers were getting comfortable with the idea of former sidekick Dick Grayson playing the role of Batman, along comes Bruce Wayne’s triumphant return to the Cape and Cowl. Is Gotham City ready for two Batmen? Is the world? And who’s to say the fun will end there?”

Con News

With Baltimore Comic Con and Fan Expo wrapping up this weekend, DC has thrown a whirlwind of news tidbits at us. I've posted three links to the articles that should hold interest to you. I will tease these few things:

1. Ongoing Batman Beyond series

2. “I’m going to give away a little secret: [Dick] was going to go back to Nightwing pretty quick, but that reaction that we’ve seen kept him in the costume longer -- and will see him there in the future. He’s not coming out anytime soon just because Bruce Wayne is coming back,” DiDio said.

3. What about “Gotham Central?” Sattler said DC is “working on something that will fill that niche.”

Getting Your Friends Into Graphic Novels

Recently, I was approached by a friend of mine who wanted to get into reading Batman graphic novels, but didn't know a good place to start. I immediately jumped on the opportunity to help my friend and here is what I discovered:
  1. Follow the time line from an early point
  2. Continuity matters
  3. Avoid cosmic stories
  4. Unless impossible, ignore stories that include characters outside the Bat-Family
  5. Seminal stories that mean a lot to the industry mean little to a new reader
  6. A new Batman reader is going to like anything that has Batman in it, so don't worry about giving something you might consider to be a little less quality than some of the cherished stories.
I'll break everything down.

The Return of Bruce Wayne #4: Preview

Early Tuesday afternoon, DC's The Source blog posted a few preview pages from Grant Morrison's upcoming Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #4. Listed below are a couple of the pages showcasing the art of Georges Jeanty.

I have not had too much experience with Mr. Jeanty's work, but these preview pages certainly have me salivating for Wednesday's Return of Bruce Wayne
