November Batman News

DC's The Source has posted new information to inform us on the changes coming to Batman in November. Here's what The Source has to say:

"Bruce Wayne be returning to a new set of Batman duds, but his first sidekick, Dick Grayson, will continue to fight crime on the streets of Gotham as Batman, and under the banner of 'Batman Inc.'"

As for the rest of the titles, Batman and Robin will continue the adventures of Dick and Damien, While Batman Inc., and Batman: Dark Knight will follow Bruce Wayne. Here's what editor Mike Marts had to say on the subject:

“Just as readers were getting comfortable with the idea of former sidekick Dick Grayson playing the role of Batman, along comes Bruce Wayne’s triumphant return to the Cape and Cowl. Is Gotham City ready for two Batmen? Is the world? And who’s to say the fun will end there?”

Con News

With Baltimore Comic Con and Fan Expo wrapping up this weekend, DC has thrown a whirlwind of news tidbits at us. I've posted three links to the articles that should hold interest to you. I will tease these few things:

1. Ongoing Batman Beyond series

2. “I’m going to give away a little secret: [Dick] was going to go back to Nightwing pretty quick, but that reaction that we’ve seen kept him in the costume longer -- and will see him there in the future. He’s not coming out anytime soon just because Bruce Wayne is coming back,” DiDio said.

3. What about “Gotham Central?” Sattler said DC is “working on something that will fill that niche.”

Details Emerge About 'Young Justice'

New details have arisen about the animated series Young Justice. And Spinoff Online has brought it to the masses.

I highly recommend you read the rest of the article, but here is a small snippet:
The cartoon’s Robin and Kid Flash are definitely Dick Grayson and Wally West, not Tim Drake and Bart Allen. “We went through and made the decision fairly early on that this was going to be a young DC universe,” Weisman said, “that Superman will have only shown up ten years ago, put on the cape ten years ago, Batman would have only put on the cape nine years ago, that the heroes haven’t been around that long, and once you’ve made that decision, then the idea of starting with Dick Grayson and Wally West, the original side kicks, they’re still young …”
The world of Young Justice is part of DC’s multiverse. “… We’re set on Earth 16,” Vietti said, “so we’re actually a part of the DC Universe – you know they have 52 earths now and we’re Earth 16, so we’re part of the multiverse, and the comic book that’s based on the show is going to be in continuity.”

Panel of the Week: August 18, 2010

Panel of The Week features the single panel that stands out head and shoulders above all other panels. The panel of the week is based on great art, strong determination, intense action, bravery, and above all else, exemplify the qualities of a super hero. This week's comics didn't feature a lot of heroics, but there were some panels that exemplified the character at hand, and that's arguably the most important aspect of all. So without further ado, the panel of the week is...

Justice Society of America #42:
Mark Bagley/Norm Rapmund (Art), James Robinson (Writer)

Faced with certain doom at the hands of a possessed Alan Scott, Batman (Dick Grayson) lets cooler heads prevail and takes control of the situation by standing firm as leader, and commanding the troops into battle.

Getting Your Friends Into Graphic Novels

Recently, I was approached by a friend of mine who wanted to get into reading Batman graphic novels, but didn't know a good place to start. I immediately jumped on the opportunity to help my friend and here is what I discovered:
  1. Follow the time line from an early point
  2. Continuity matters
  3. Avoid cosmic stories
  4. Unless impossible, ignore stories that include characters outside the Bat-Family
  5. Seminal stories that mean a lot to the industry mean little to a new reader
  6. A new Batman reader is going to like anything that has Batman in it, so don't worry about giving something you might consider to be a little less quality than some of the cherished stories.
I'll break everything down.

From The Soundtracks: U2-"Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me"

Batman movies have had an interesting relationship with popular music over the years. Prior to Chris Nolan's entrance in to Gotham City, Batman soundtracks have had a mix of some of the best and most bizarre musical selections for any films, let alone films featuring The Dark Knight.

Over the years, I've collected every single soundtrack for a Batman film, and this week's edition stands out as one of my favorites. From the same era that brought you Zoo TV, U2 put their mark on Gotham City with a strong lead song from Batman Forever

Return of Bruce Wayne: A Wish List

With the impending return of Bruce Wayne and everything that’s going to shake up Gotham and the DCU in the process, I have a few things that I want to see happen. This is not a list of who Bruce needs to square off against or what threat needs to be handled, this is a list of how Bruce and the Bat-Family in general will be received one they are all reunited. Granted, I don’t expect to have this list fulfilled to completion, but these are things that I would like to see get more attention than just a panel or two. They mostly deal with the relationships between Bruce and his team.

Coolest November Solication Covers

I love new solicitation day. The hints of what's to come...the cool covers...I love it all. Every month, I take a look at the new covers and go "WOW THAT'S AWESOME!!" Today, here are the three Batman related covers that just made my eyes pop.

Gotham Central-Reviews #37

Hello Gothamites,

Joining Crazy Quilt this week is none other than Calendar Man himself, Brian "Mosedogg" Moseley! Brian joins us this week to talk about all the recent Gotham news as well as help out reviewing all of this week's books!

This week's books are:

Batgirl #13
Birds of Prey #4

Panel of The Week: August 11, 2010

In an attempt to bring more content to the site, we are instating Panel of The Week which features the single panel that stands out head and shoulders above all other panels. The panel of the week is based on great art, strong determination, intense action, bravery, and above all else, exemplify the qualities of a super hero.

There are some standards that we have to set in, however. For example, the panel must exist on its own, meaning that it cannot be separated into multiple panels to get its point across. Also, splash pages, two pages spreads, and title pages are automatically removed from qualification, but that's pretty much it, so without further ado, the panel of the week is:

Batgirl #14: Pere Perez (Artist) Bryan Q. Miller (Writer)

In the midst of a mirror match fight with Clayface, Stephanie Brown shows all the qualities of a true hero, proving further that she indeed deserves the mantle of Batgirl. Risking her own life to stop crime, bring Clayface to justice, and saving everyone in the vicinity earns her the panel of the week.

Check out the runners up directly after the jump.
